Safe, Effective, Mixed Martial Arts Training!
If you are 40 or older, out of shape and are willing to learn, this class is for you!
The biggest testimonial of the effectiveness of mixed martial arts training for self-defense is that the military now uses MMA to train its soldiers. The Army and Marine Corps observed mixed martial arts practicality and implemented MMA training into the curriculum for their soldiers.
The UFC’s popularity has influenced many people to want to try and learn MMA. Walk into any academy and you will see mostly young guys training. Nothing wrong with that of course but if you haven’t worked out in a while and get paired up with a young guy who may or may not have self-control, well that workout session can go from ok to bad in a few seconds.
Age catches us all. You can’t avoid it. I have been training most of my life and I don’t want to train with those young fellas that think they are 1 step away from a UFC contract. I just want to train without feeling I have to fight for my life every single class.
I went into a jiu-jitsu school a while back and even watching their warmups I realized why they didn’t have any older people in class. Cartwheels and all kinds of plyometric exercises that would make anyone with injuries or flexibility issues cringe.
And with today’s current climate ask yourself this. Who really needs to learn practical self-defense? It’s older people who are established. They are now targets for youths who have a poor work ethic and an even poorer understanding of capitalism, socialism and communism. I am not fond of being pc and truth is truth, no matter how you decorate it.
So what this basically boils down to is that those who really need self defense, might not want to train where the warm up requires you to be a 5 year crossfit athlete/gymnast. Or where you are paired up with a guy fresh out of boot camp who thinks they are UFC bound and has 0 self control. So those that really need it, won’t receive it because of the culture of the academy. We have fixed that for you. Our goal is to give those that really need self defense a place to train without having to feel you are fighting for your life or trying out for the Olympics.
So we have developed a class for all of us older folks (me included). It’s held in a private area of the gym. And here is the excellent part. If you aren’t at least 40 you can’t attend. Everyone is easy going and great to work with. And you get pushed slightly out of your comfort zone but not to the point of where you will need a day off of work. And the better you get the harder you will be pushed. So we will work with you increasing your cardio, muscular strength and flexibility at your own pace no matter where you are at in your fitness journey.
This class will be perfect for you if you meet a few of the criteria below:
- Haven’t worked out in a while.
- Lack flexibility.
- Are over 40.
- Have old nagging injuries.
- Have a positive attitude.
- Want to learn how to really defend yourself.
- Desire a healthier lifestyle.
- Want to lose a few pounds.
- Will train safely.
- Will commit to at least 2 classes per week.
